RBT Exam Structure: Format, Timing and Scoring
The RBT exam contains 85 multiple choice questions, 75 scored and 10 unscored pilot items, with 90 minutes to finish. It is taken by computer through Pearson VUE, and passing requires a scaled score of 200 on a 0 to 250 scale.
Every question is multiple choice with four options, and there is no penalty for guessing, so no question should ever be left blank. You can move freely between questions, flag any question for review, and return to flagged questions before submitting, which is exactly how the mock exams on this site behave.
How many questions come from each domain?
The 75 scored questions follow the published domain weighting of the BACB Task List. Skill Acquisition alone is nearly a third of the exam, which should shape how you divide your study time:

How is the RBT exam scored?
Raw correct answers convert to a scaled score between 0 and 250, with 200 required to pass. Scaling exists because different exam forms vary slightly in difficulty; the conversion evens that out so every candidate faces the same standard. The 10 pilot questions are being evaluated for future exams and do not affect your score at all, but since you cannot tell which they are, treat every question as real.
You see an unofficial pass or fail on screen at the testing center the moment you finish. Candidates who fail receive a score report showing performance by domain and can retake after the required waiting period, paying the exam appointment fee again.
What does the timing feel like?
90 minutes for 85 questions is roughly 63 seconds per question, which is comfortable if you keep moving. The pacing failure mode is spending four minutes wrestling one scenario early: answer your best guess, flag it, and come back with the time you saved. Most prepared candidates finish with 15 to 25 minutes to spare, which is exactly the review window flagging is designed for.
