BACB Task List 3rd Edition aligned100% free, no signupLast updated August 2026Original questions with explanations

Assessment is the smallest domain on the RBT exam at roughly 8 percent of scored questions, but its questions are highly predictable: preference assessment formats, ABC recording, functional analysis conditions and where the RBT's role stops. This quiz covers all four.

The near-guaranteed exam question from this domain asks you to identify a preference assessment from its description. Learn the five formats until the identification is automatic.

Assessment Domain Quiz (10 questions, untimed)

What the Assessment domain covers

The Task List expects you to conduct preference assessments, assist with individualized assessment procedures like curriculum-based assessments and skill probes, and assist with functional assessment procedures including ABC data collection.

The role boundary is the second reliable question source: RBTs run assigned assessment procedures and record accurate data, while choosing assessments, interpreting results and determining function belong to the supervising behavior analyst. Scenario questions love to offer a tempting answer where the RBT helpfully interprets something.

Frequently asked questions

What are the five preference assessment types?
Single stimulus, paired stimulus (forced choice), multiple stimulus with replacement, multiple stimulus without replacement (MSWO), and free operant observation. The exam describes one and asks you to name it.
Can an RBT run a functional analysis?
An RBT can assist with functional analysis sessions under close supervision, but a behavior analyst designs the conditions and interprets the results. Identifying function is never the RBT's call.
What does ABC stand for in ABC data?
Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence: what happened immediately before the behavior, the observable behavior itself, and what happened immediately after.
